The Hidden Gems in Scripture About Singleness You’ve Never Heard
Let’s be honest—Christian singles are tired. Tired of cliché advice. Tired of being told, “Just wait on God” as if waiting is a passive sentence. Tired of being seen as "incomplete" or “on pause” until a spouse appears. We live in a culture—sadly, even in Christian spaces—where marriage is viewed as the pinnacle of purpose, and singleness is seen as a condition to escape.
But what if that’s not how God sees it?
What if the Bible has hidden gems—scriptures you’ve never truly been taught—that redefine singleness, not as a lesser status, but as a season rich with divine purpose, powerful identity, and sacred opportunity?
At S.A.L.T. (Singles Applying The Lord’s Truth Ministry), we challenge the distorted views that Christian singles have been fed for decades. We don’t echo what the world says. We go deeper. We uncover truth—God’s truth—about the season of singleness.
And today, we want to share some of the hidden gems in Scripture about singleness that you’ve probably never heard from a pulpit or podcast.
💎 1. Adam Wasn’t Incomplete—He Was Complete and Commissioned
Let’s start in Genesis—not with Eve, but with Adam before Eve ever existed.
In Genesis 2:7–8, God forms man, places man in the Garden, and gives him work, responsibility, and relationship with Himself. Adam is alone—but he’s not aimless. He is single—but not stagnant. He has identity, purpose, and an assignment.
Before God said, “It is not good for man to be alone,” He had already called Adam to tend the garden, name the animals, and walk with Him in fellowship.
Here’s the gem: Adam wasn’t incomplete without Eve—he was functioning in his calling. His singleness had a purpose, and so does yours.
If you skip past Adam’s single season, you’ll miss the process God uses to form purpose, cultivate character, and prepare you for future connections—including marriage, ministry, and more.
💎 2. Jesus Was Single—and Fulfilled the Greatest Purpose Ever
Let that sink in: The most complete, most perfect, most anointed, most obedient man who ever lived—was single.
Jesus didn’t marry. He didn’t “settle down.” He lived 33 years on earth, changed history, fulfilled prophecy, and accomplished the plan of redemption without ever entering into a romantic relationship.
So, if singleness was “less than,” wouldn’t Jesus have bypassed it?
Instead, Jesus exalted singleness by modeling the fullness of obedience, purpose, and intimacy with the Father—without needing a spouse.
The gem here is this: Your value is not tied to your relationship status. Your purpose is not on hold. If Jesus fulfilled His calling in singleness, you can too.
💎 3. Paul Didn’t Tolerate Singleness—He Celebrated It
We often quote 1 Corinthians 7:7 without really grasping its weight. Paul says:
“I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God.”
He’s talking about singleness—as a gift.
In a culture where marriage was the norm, Paul turns the tables. He explains that singleness isn’t second-best—it’s a God-given advantage for undivided devotion to the Lord (1 Corinthians 7:32–35).
Paul wasn’t bitter. He wasn’t lonely. He was on fire with purpose, free from distractions, and laser-focused on ministry.
The gem: Singleness is not something to get through; it’s something to thrive in. It’s not a waiting room. It’s a war room—a place where you and God forge a bond so strong, no season can break it.
💎 4. The Woman at the Well Encountered Purpose, Not Punishment
In John chapter 4, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman—a woman who had five husbands and was living with a man who wasn’t her husband.
We often reduce her story to one of shame or brokenness. But Jesus didn’t shame her. He revealed truth, exposed hunger, and invited her into living water—a relationship that would transform her.
After that encounter, this single woman becomes the first evangelist in the Gospel of John, bringing her entire town to meet Jesus.
The hidden gem here is profound: God doesn’t wait for you to “get your life together” or find the perfect partner before He calls you into purpose. He meets you where you are—and often, your singleness is the stage for the greatest work He will do in you and through you.
💎 5. Singleness Is a Season of Revelation, Not Rejection
Too often, singles internalize the lie that they are being “left out” or “passed over.” But singleness isn’t evidence of rejection—it’s a space for revelation.
Some of the most intimate encounters in Scripture happened in moments of aloneness.
- Moses on the mountain—alone.
- Jacob wrestling with God—alone.
- John receiving the book of Revelation on the island of Patmos—alone.
- Jesus praying in Gethsemane—alone.
These were not moments of isolation; they were moments of impartation. So, it is with you.
